F.A.Q. / Problem Solving...
What do P.R. people know about the management (and the politics) of large companies?

Most senior public relations consultants have good knowledge of the management structure of companies and awareness of company politics; in addition some, like Sally Carpenter, can offer the experience of working in industrial, retail or commercial organisations.

Sally was on the management team of Anglo American Insurance Company; the team took the company forward; from a small project team with a nervous future to a profitable business attracting international clients (mainly from the USA) leading towards an Initial Public Offering.

How can my business benefit from London 2012?

London 2012 could bring great opportunities for a range of businesses in the UK; and especially those based in the east of England.  Outside the main site there will be a need for training centres prior to the events and many visitors will be looking for accommodation, tourist attractions and "a taste of England" as they use their visit to explore other parts of the UK.  The organisers are keen to emphasise that there must be a positive legacy from the games.

Clientact is attending a number of briefing seminars to keep up to date with opportunities for our clients.  Please contact us for a quick update or to source information.  Remember London 2012 is only 6 years away.

How do we get our company in the paper?

· Have a good story
· Make the press release relevant and interesting with facts and information.

Why didn't they print our story - it was really interesting?

Editors' desks and computers are frequently overloaded with press releases and stories. They have to be selective. Each paper has a limit on the number of editorial pages for local, regional, international, lifestyle, health, motor and sports news. If there is no space and the story is date sensitive then - sorry - but it will be binned.

Why didn't they use my photo?

Photographs of cheque presentations with one large white billboard size cheque and 6 people peering out over the edge do not make the most exciting image. The editors appreciate the unusual angle, the interesting prop or an unusual celebrity - make it slightly different and you have an increased chance of success.

A professional photographer and a creative mind will produce good quality P.R. shots.

They did not return my photo?

A busy press desk does not have the time or the inclination to find an envelopes and return every photo that is submitted. This problem will soon be resolved with the increased use of photos sent electronically.

When will our photos be in the paper?

At ClientAct we try not to hassle editors - constant telephone calls to their office asking when they intend to publish a small press release would not be well received. If we are working with an editor on a feature, then we will know the date of publication. Publication of press releases is at the editor's discretion.

We advertise - so we don't need public relations?

If you are successfully relying on advertising that is great; but most companies quickly learn the benefits of using a marketing/advertising/PR mix.
An effective and well planned public relations campaign can bring added value to the advertising investment.

Success breeds success - but only if you talk about it - so talk to ClientAct on 01376 513640.
